PETALING JAYA: National marathon runner M. Sanjay has set a new record in the 10km road race at the Songkhla Marathon in Thailand on Sunday (Aug 24).

The 23-year-old clocked an impressive 31:03, finishing second overall while also clinching the 20-24 age category title in the process.

His record-breaking run is pending ratification by both World Athletics (WA) and the Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF).

The previous national road best of 31:55 was set by G. Vimal at the Asics Meta 10K in Bangkok last year.

On the track, the long-standing benchmark remains at 29:30.19, established by M. Ramachandran at the Troisdorf Open in Germany 31 years ago.
