Aznil secures another weightlifting gold for Malaysia in 2022 Commonwealth Games


PETALING JAYA: Aznil Bidin lifted his way to a second gold for Malaysia in the 2022 Commonwealth Games weightlifting competition at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

The 28-year-old lifted a combined total of 285kg for a new Games record in the men's 61kg competition.

Aznil heaved 127kg in snatch and cleared 158kg in clean and jerk to secure his second Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Aznil won the men's 61kg category in the previous edition in Gold Coast, Australia four years ago.

Morea Baru of Papua New Guinea settled for silver with 273kg.

India's Gururaja Gururaja took bronze with 269kg.

Aniq Kasdan delivered the first gold medal when he won the men's 55kg with the last lift of the competition earlier.
