Former national athlete proud of daughter Shereen Vallabouy's US track-and-field victories

PETALING JAYA: Like any mother, former national athlete Josephine Mary Singarayar is proud of her 23-year-old daughter’s success in the United States, but has reminded her to stay humble in order to achieve more.

Shereen Samson Vallabouy (pic) is rocking it in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II track and field competition and recently showed that she could emulate her mother, who also ran the 400m in the past.

The youngest daughter of Josephine and Samson Vallabuoy, also a former national athlete, won the 2022 NCAA Division II 400m race, turning in a time of 53.79sec to win the event in the Robert W. Plaster Center at Pittsburg State University, Kansas last Saturday (March 12).

Josephine, when contacted, said she was happy to see her daughter progressing well in the sport, but added that it must not stop.

"I believe she is doing great thanks to her humility, and that must continue. More achievements will come her way if she focuses on training and also discipline in life," she said.

"She has been in the States since 2019, and we can see the progress she is making. As a mother, whatever she does, whether sports or academics, I just want her to do her best. If she does that, I will always be proud," added Josephine.
