Syafiq-Gabriel get first diving medal for Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Gabriel Gilbert Daim-Mohd Syafiq Puteh got their act right to deliver silver in the men's 3m springboard synchro and the first diving medal for Malaysia at Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

Gabriel-Syafiq came good in the last two dives, scoring 67.50 and 66.60 to finish second with 376.77 points in the final on Friday (Aug 5).

It is the first diving medal won by Malaysia in the men's competition since Ooi Tze Liang claimed gold in the men's 3m springboard individual at the 2014 Glasgow Games.

It was heartbreak for Tze Liang-Chew Yi Wei who finished fifth in the final.

Tze Liang-Yiwei were in silver medal position with two dives to go but their medal hopes faded after only scoring 40.59 for their fourth dive.

The pair eventually finished with 366.09 points.

Anthony Harding-Jack Laugher led from the start till finish to take the third gold for England in the diving competition with 438.33 points.

Australia's Li Shixin-Samuel Fricker took bronze with 374.52 points.
