IT is just over a month since the KLIA Aerotrain resumed operations on July 1, 2025, after a 28-month suspension – yet it has already broken down five times. The latest incident on Aug 4 was blamed on a vague "technical issue". This excuse is both embarrassing and unacceptable. This is especially so given the relaunch was heavily promoted by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and even officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
As the country's main international gateway, KLIA is expected to serve millions of passengers every month. In fact, in the first half of this year alone, KLIA recorded 30.1 million passengers, and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is confident of reaching 62 million by the end of the year.
