WHEN the vice president of Singapore’s Law Society dismissed a sexual assault survivor as “not exactly a babe in the woods” he didn’t just insult her – he proved how deeply victim-blaming is embedded in our systems around the world, be it Singapore, the United States and even Malaysia.

His social media post was quickly deleted, but his words – and more importantly, implications – were remembered: She was asking for it.
