Making life golden for the elderly

I REFER to the report “Son quits job to care for paralysed mum” (The Star, April 7). I salute Zahid Maula Isa Rahmat’s exemplary act of filial responsibility, especially in light of the frequent cases of people abandoning their elderly family members at mosques, temples, shelters and even on the streets, as reported in “Left to face the end alone” (Sunday Star, March 16).

According to the Association for Residential Aged Care Operators of Malaysia (Agecope), elderly abandonment occurs when families fail to visit their elderly relatives and stop paying the monthly fees for their care.
