She led a renaissance of the Constitution

A SPECIAL programme to honour its most distinguished alumnus, Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat (pic), was organised at Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Law on Jan 20, 2025. Tun had graduated with honours in 1982 and went on to blaze a path for all women lawyers by being appointed the first female Chief Justice of the country in 2019.

During the “Live to Lead” event, many warm tributes were paid about Tun’s character and accomplishments. She was described as an epitome of integrity, wisdom, independence, and courage. In court cases that could cow judges anywhere in the world, she did not allow public opinion or political pressure to shake her firm commitment to justice under the Constitution and the laws.
