Train our teachers, don’t hire outsiders

I READ that at the recent meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singa-pore’s new Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, it was decided that Singapore will send teachers and lecturers to Malaysian schools and colleges on a contract basis to teach our children.

I would like to suggest a better idea. In the 1960s we sent our teachers to England, to teacher training colleges like Kirkby and Brinsford Lodge for one or two years to be trained to be proficient in English particularly and be better teachers generally. It was a very popular programme.
