Elimination of monopolies


IT has been one year since Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took office. He was voted in on the back of his reformist credentials, but the jury is still out on whether he has done enough.

In March this year, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government would be reviewing all monopolies to ensure that the rakyat enjoy a fair deal. The statement certainly set the right tone for his administration since almost all forms of monopolies are disadvantageous to the people.
