Let’s continue the calculation in Maths

AS a parent with children attending national secondary schools, I am in full agreement with the academics in “Students lose interest in science, maths due to weak foundation, say dons” (Sunday Star, Aug 13).

The problem is the focus is on getting high marks, hence an emphasis on memorising the “correct answer”. The heavy syllabus is also a significant factor.
