‘Explosive’ races on Penang expressway

ON a fateful day in July 2022, at around 4am, five motorcyclists were killed on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway heading towards George Town. Before this, illegal racing with all the associated mayhem was a regular feature every weekend between 3am and 4am. The authorities said back then

“... that before the accident, a police team had patrolled the location as a precautionary measure to prevent illegal racing activities. He said the police had planned to arrest those involved in the activities” (“5 die in Penang after their motorcycles collide during suspected street race”, Channel News Asia; https://bit.ly/3pYgTkj).
