Adopt living wage, upskill workers

IN conjunction with Labour Day yesterday, we would like to draw the attention of policymakers, employers and other stakeholders to the plight of Malaysian employees who are earning an income that is below the minimum standard required to live decently.

Malaysia has ratified the International Labour Organi-sation’s (ILO) Convention on Decent Work. The ILO’s definition of Decent Work encompasses opportunities for work that is productive and delivers a fair income; security in the workplace and social protection; better prospects for personal development and social integration; freedom for people to express their concerns, organise and participate in the decisions that affect their lives; and equality of opportunity for and treatment of all.
