MALAYSIA’S official statistics reveal that the number of homeless people in the country has drastically increased recently compared with previous years.

Between 2000 and 2009, the average number of homeless people throughout Malaysia who were detained by social welfare officers was 1,300. However, from 2015 to 2019, that figure rose to 14,863! And since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the homelessness issue has become a serious nationwide problem.
