Hopes for new drug law


I APPLAUD the Home Minister’s recent announcement about the proposed new law to replace the Drug Dependants (Treatment & Rehabilitation) Act 1983 (Act 283), “New drug law to prioritise treatment of addicts instead of punishing, says Saifuddin” (The Star, Feb 22; online at https://bit.ly/3FCRgur).

Tentatively called the Drug and Substance Abuse (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act, it will prioritise treatment of drug addicts rather than punishment.
