Query on lack of progress in RFID toll rollout plan

I AM writing to express my concerns about the lack of progress in the implementation of RFID toll collection. Several years ago, I signed up as a pilot user for this new technology with the expectation that RFID would become the standard method of toll collection.

I am disappointed to see that RFID is still limited to just one or two lanes at every toll plaza. In mid-2021, it was reported that the rollout of this technology was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we are now approaching Q2 2023, and there still seems to be no clear plan for rolling out this technology more widely.

As someone who lives in the Klang Valley, it is virtually impossible to avoid tolls, so I find it frustrating to have to queue up to pay. RFID technology is supposed to offer a more efficient and seamless alternative and would benefit not only myself but all drivers too.

I would like to know what the plan is for expanding RFID toll collection. Are there any barriers to its wider implementation, and if so, what steps are being taken to overcome them? Or is it merely an additional toll transaction option for users alongside Touch ‘N Go and SmartTag?

I urge the relevant authorities to prioritise the rollout of RFID technology and to provide clear updates on their progress. As drivers, we deserve to know what is being done to improve our transport system.
