Reminder to reform GLC appointment process

THE Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) is against the appointments of a state Umno chief and a former youth Umno chief to two government-linked companies (GLCs) – Mara (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) and Felcra (Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority).

Announced amidst Umno’s party elections and ahead of the upcoming elections in six states, these appointments may potentially be perceived as patronage and “rewards” in exchange for political support. Also, a PKR vice-president was recently appointed Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd chairman.
