THERE are calls for the new Education Minister to consider reviving the UPSR (Ujian Penca-paian Sekolah Rendah) and PT3 (Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga) examinations.

The current discourse touches on the merits and demerits of having public examinations in our education system. While the pros and cons are propounded with equal vigour, perhaps the safe conclusion to make is that exams are a necessary evil.
