IT was truly a Malaysian award! The Perdana Maulidur Rasul Awards were granted by the King yesterday in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. For the first time, the Ikon Ibu Sejati-Keluarga Malaysia award was given to a non-Muslim, Chinese mother Chee Hoi Lan, for raising her adopted daughter as a Muslim.
Our heartiest congratulations to the 82-year-old retired teacher who took in an abandoned baby and raised her in the Muslim faith. This goes a long way towards showing we are truly one Malaysian Family.
