Speedy Tigers are champions in the making

WE must congratulate our national hockey team, nicknamed Speedy Tigers, for their gallant fighting spirit before going down 2-1 to South Korea in Wednesday’s Asia Cup final at the GBK Stadium in Jakarta.

The boys did their best to win but sadly fell short. I believe this is a temporary setback, as winning or losing is part and parcel of sport.

But our boys must have the grit to bounce back if they want to become champions.

As the famous American football player and coach Henry Russell (“Red”) Sanders once said: “Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing.”

Our boys are young and I believe they have the potential to go far. From now on, the Malaysia Hockey Federation (MHF) must commit to and take bold steps in moulding and strengthening them.

I am confident that this team has the potential to become world champions based on the players’ youth, commitment and, of course, skills.

With good strategies and proper planning by MHF, the boys can shine during the World Cup 2023 in India.

Obviously, our hockey fans are anxiously waiting for some light at the end of the tunnel!
