Where rules are less important than kindness

“WE need a system ... which will produce not only surgeons, but surgeons of the highest type, who will stimulate the finest youth of their country to study surgery, and to devote their energies and their lives to raising the standards of surgical science.”

This is an excerpt from the “Training of the Surgeon” address given in 1904 by Johns Hopkins Hospital’s first surgeon-in-chief, William Stewart Halsted.
