I REFER to the report “Debunking outlandish claims” (The Star, July 13), which also advises the public to verify via the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission portal Sebenarny.my any news items they receive before sharing them on social media.

Fake news is nothing new. Along with hoaxes, pranks and mischief, it has been circulated for a long time and has increased in frequency and volume since the advent of the Internet.
