IT is not unusual to receive greetings during Chinese New Year. What really tugged on my heart strings this year were well-wishes from not only my non-Chinese friends but even strangers who wished me “Gong Xi Fa Cai”.
It did not matter if the people who offered the greeting when I was out buying food and groceries pronounced it a little messily. They conveyed a loud and clear message of unity and respect.
