Maintain road into the highlands

THERE are two roads leading up to Pahang’s Cameron Highlands. For those driving from the north, in Perak, there is the Simpang Pulai highway, which is wide and new. Those driving from the south have to head up to Perak and take the Tapah R&R toll exit road, which is convenient and nearer – and the oldest road up to the Highlands. This latter road needs to be seriously and urgently examined: the 58km stretch is in bad shape.

On a recent drive up to the Highlands using this road, I encountered fallen branches and potholes. The narrow stretch known for its hairpin bends is peppered with potholes which hamper safe driving. In trying to avoid the potholes, many cars drove close to oncoming traffic.
