Society adds to the problem

HAVING read the letters by Datuk Dr Fadzli Cheah, “Baby dumping: Health Ministry should set up baby hatches at all its hospitals” (The Star, Aug 11; online at https://bit.ly/31IgiDJ), and Dr John Teo, “Change in mindset critical in preventing baby dumping” (Aug 12), I believe it is high time for some plain-speaking.

The baby hatch is a necessary Band-Aid remedy. It does not, however, address the root causes of the problem, and it evades the sexual double standards in our laws, both civil and syariah.
