THE private education sector in Malaysia, a major source of revenue for the government, has not been spared the difficulties of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Private institutions of higher learning (IHL) depend mainly on tuition fees from local and international students to sustain their business, and this has not been easy given dwindling student enrolment numbers. With the Covid-19 travel restrictions, international student enrolment will further decline. In addition to this, with classes going online, private IHL have to review student activities’ fees, meaning a further reduction in revenue.
