“Solidarity in times of crisis.” That is the title of a recent article in this newspaper by a co-writer of mine. This couldn’t be more pertinent at this unprecedented time in global history. What we are experiencing right now with regards to the global shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic in terms of the economic impact has been compared to the 1997 Asian and 2008 global financial crises, but the far-reaching socio-economic impacts could be compared even to a wartime scenario.
Out-of-control global mortality rates, mental challenges due to the various movement control orders that shouldn’t be overlooked, a bleak outlook for the economy and a general sense of unease and expectation of the unknown all contribute to this.
