Size of country's epidemic is unknown – we aren't testing enough

TO understand our epidemic, we must stop looking at daily Covid-19 case numbers.

There are many individuals who are reassured by the small number of daily new cases reported and the slow growth of the epidemic here. I have seen many posts on various social media regarding this, often with some comparison with countries doing worse than us.
