There is still a light ahead

I WOULD like to applaud Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai for his article titled “Sowing truth in a time of lies” in Sunday Star (in the column On the Beat; online at bit.ly/star_truth). I am a regular reader of The Star and I make it a point to read Wong’s editorials because he writes without fear or favour. I was particularly impressed by his comments about the 1MDB financial scandal soon after it became public knowledge, along with the misdemeanours of those in power at that time – given the impunity with which officials were being sacked then, The Star and Wong could have been in trouble.

All of Wong’s comments in last Sunday’s article are pertinent. The world in general and our country in particular has lost its moral compass. I am in my late 60s and I shudder at the legacy I am leaving my children and grandchildren. His comments resonate with me: Seeing the blatant disregard for honesty and the justification given for misdemeanours committed without fear or shame, one can only conclude that people no longer believe in God nor fear Him; the afterlife and the punishment that await the sinner must just be, in the eyes and minds of some, fairytales, meant only to frighten children.
