SOME time ago, a Singaporean woman working in France texted her colleagues after working hours and expected a response. One of her colleagues took a snapshot of her message and sent it to their human resource department, which then contacted the woman and asked about her life after work, if she had plans and if she was depressed.
In France, the labour law prohibits employees from contacting colleagues about work after working hours. Call it work life balance or workers protection of privacy, but this culture does not really exist in Malaysia. Taking into account our cultural differences, should this be enforced here?
