FROM the outset, Barisan Nasional had an edge over Pakatan Harapan in the Tanjung Piai, Johor, by-election in its choice of Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, a former two-term Tanjung Piai MP with a proven track record. Pakatan’s Karmaine Sardini is relatively unknown compared with Wee.
Most political analysts predicted a slim but respectable majority for Barisan’s candidate considering the muafakat (unity pact) between PAS and Umno. But a five-figure gap in favour of Barisan was beyond most peoples’ expectations.
