THE notion of the “deep state” has become the proverbial flavour of the month.
Since the rise of United States president Donald Trump, his supporters have used the notion of deep state as a bludgeon against the Democrats. It alludes to structures of hidden government that are alleged to have served the political class in the US, and Trump sees it as undermining his legitimacy as an outsider.
