MALAYSIA’S media has been over and arbitrarily regulated for decades. While politicians have publicly bemoaned sensationalism and poor reporting, the law made them ultimately responsible for the media environment.
Newspapers show this clearly. With the Home Minister given sweeping power to approve or revoke licences, and journalists have to take into account their readers, the single most important reader is the Minister in power.
