Another toll plaza could ease jam

THE volume of traffic at the Gombak toll is usually very high during festive seasons. A few days before and after the festivals, it can take between two and three hours to travel from the Gombak toll plaza to the Bentong toll plaza on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway. The normal travelling time between the two toll plazas is between 30 and 40 minutes.

The volume of traffic is also high on Sunday evenings nowadays, as this highway gets a lot of traffic from the east coast and Genting Highlands.

I would like to know what the highway operator (MTD Prime Sdn Bhd) or the government plans to do to ease the congestion faced by motorists using this highway not only during festive seasons but on weekends as well.

MTD Prime has tried opening additional lanes before but there were just too many cars; it didn’t work. I would suggest that the government or highway operator look into opening another toll booth before the Gombak toll plaza to disperse the traffic. The new toll booth could be located near the Islamic University or the JPJ station that leads to the old KL-Kuantan road.

I don’t have a helicopter view of the area but I am sure there will be a place where another toll booth could be located that connects to the old KL-Kuantan road.

If this could be done and some parts of the old stretches of the Gombak road are improved, the congestion at the current Gombak toll could be greatly reduced.
