Modern form of slavery

I REFER to the report “M’sians held in Cambodia jail” (The Star, Feb 8) on 47 Malaysians, believed to be victims of a human trafficking syndicate, being detained in a prison in Cambodia since December last year.

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. It plagues every country. Victims are deceived into accepting a job offer that promises them a better life. Instead, they find themselves trapped in a cycle of physical and psychological abuse.
