The embattled general practitioner

WHEN I graduated 27 years ago, never did I ever envision that there would come a time when, after six gruelling years of training and approximately RM1mil or more spent, doctors have to wait up to a year to find even a temporary contract job.

Many have turned to unpaid or lowly-paid medical or non-medical attachment. Some have become Grab (ride hailing) drivers or have taken up other odd jobs that at least help them to pay their daily expenses; some also volunteer in NGOs to keep up their skills.
