Need to work with community pharmacists

Close up of packs of pills.

WE refer to the statement by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad on the proposal to control the prices of medicines through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, “Ministry aims to control prices of medicines” (The Star, Nov 15).

The Malaysian Community Pharmacy Guild (MCPG) applauds the Health Ministry on this initiative but we have concerns about the price control mechanism and how it would be implemented. It is only fair if everyone starts from the same cost price/base otherwise many community pharmacies would close shop as most of them are already selling cheaply in the market.
