Waning standards in badminton performance


I HAVE been an ardent follower of badminton and have witnessed the ups and downs of our nation’s badminton performances in the past. I feel really sad about our current situation and feel that the future looks bleak.

In the past, we were respected as a strong badminton country in the world. I remember how our team won the Thomas Cup in 1967 in Jakarta. The Indonesian team was equally strong and the crowd was very hostile, yet our team led the Indonesian team by four matches to three before the matches were abandoned due to an unruly crowd.
