Elderly citizens need special geriatric hospital

I REFER to the letter “Improving care for the aged” (The Star, Aug 9). It is time for the government to seriously consider building a hospital in every state to cater specifically for senior citizens.

The number of senior citizens frequenting hospitals has increased tremendously in the last two decades and they are now largely facing the prospect of being warded in congested hospitals and getting less than optimal care. There is also added pressure on the hospital staff to vacate the beds as soon as possible for other patients.
