Camera crews better than CCTV system


The loudspeaker and CCTV attached to a pole. The Petaling Jaya City Council has installed 12 CCTV accompanied with loudspeakers in Section 52. The council’s enforcement officers are able to make real time announcement to remove vehicles that were obstructing the traffic through the loudspeakers. 85 of the offenders would remove their vehicles after the announcement was made.

DURING a town hall discussion last Saturday in Subang Jaya, the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) proposed a national policy on closed-circuit television (CCTV) for crime prevention.

MCPF vice-chairman Datuk Seri Ayub Yaakob pointed out that billions of ringgit had been spent on CCTV installations without any regulation to ensure their effectiveness in combating crime and drug abuse.
