Glorious view spoiled by rubbish

Discarded plastic bottles and other debris on the shore, Kota Kinabalu.

DURING a recent working visit to Kota Kinabalu, I was told by the driver of the vehicle ferrying me from the airport to the hotel that the most beautiful sunset in the world (or at least one of the most beautiful) is seen in this city and the rest of the west coast of Sabah.

It was dusk as we drove along the coast, and it was obvious that he wasn’t lying. I saw the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen in all my years of travel. It even beats the ones I’ve seen in Bali even though it’s the same sun!
