‘I smelt a rat immediately’

I REFER to the letter “A narrow escape from a scam” (The Star, March 9). I also received a call purportedly from the headquarters of a local bank regarding some banking transactions which were supposedly done by me. I smelt a rat immediately because I do not have an account with that bank.

Amazingly, the caller ID showed the real number of the bank’s customer service. I hung up immediately but out of curiosity, I called the number and was directed to an automated answering machine.
