I REGULARLY come across reports in the media of the “hand-wringing” on the part of local councils over the illegal and indiscriminate pasting of advertisements on public sign posts and bus shelters. One of these reports described how one such authority removed more than 5,000 such illegal posters. All this work must come at a cost!
After reading such reports, I take the trouble of writing to the local councils to suggest a solution which is literally staring them in the face. I even wrote to the mayor of Kuala Lumpur after it was reported that he was “so fed up with the illegal posters that he has been thinking of amending the by-laws to allow City Hall to cane those caught pasting them on its property.”
