The Thomas Cup Finals tournament held in Chengdu, China recently has been a real treat for all.

The thrills and spills displayed on the court was all that it takes for badminton enthusiasts the world over to love the game.

Malaysian players on their part did not disappoint their loyal fans. They gave a creditable performance in the semi-finals, only to lose out to the might of China 1-3, but not without a fight.

There is nothing to be ashamed of in their defeat to China. They tried their level best, and only succumbed to them after four hours of intense play.

In the preliminary rounds, our players played their hearts out, only to lose to the Danes in the final singles match, for an overall score of 2-3.

In the quarter finals, Malaysia faced Japan, and came out victors 3-1. A remarkable achievement considering that they were the underdogs.

Team spirit was the order of the day. We can be proud of the Malaysian players on their superb performances throughout the tournament.

The important thing is to give your best while playing. They can leave Chengdu with their heads held high for their fighting spirit and team spirit displayed through the entire tournament.

Malaysian fans of all races back home were rooting for them. Even my residents' association group had viralled a message to notify us of the semi-finals schedule. They epitomised the true spirit of all Malaysians.
