Politicians must tackle the problem

I REFER to your front page exposé on logging in the Ulu Muda forest reserve, “Logging out a forest reserve” (The Star, May 16). This rape of the country’s natural resources is just one example of the many that are currently going on, and unless we make an example of the people responsible in this case, nothing much can be done to save the forests.

Politicians on both sides of the political divide should lead the way in tackling this problem but it looks like most are just making hollow comments about corruption and transparency. The whole political system seems to be about using the people’s money in taxes to spend as they please. Where is the check and balance?
