Use aptitude test in selection process


I REFER to the report “69,000 apply to fill 3,200 teaching posts” (The Star, Dec 8). It’s heartening to know that more students are being drawn to the teaching profession, as the huge number of applicants shows. However, it should not be taken as an indication of a shift in interest for teaching because lots of other factors are also involved.

Quantity does not necessarily reflect quality. Therefore, analysing and finalising the list of successful candidates need to be done with discretion.
