WE refer to the report titled “What RM17 can buy” (The Star, Nov 5).

Congratulations to the Government for fulfilling its obligations to the Framework Convention for Tobacco Control signed in 2005. Malaysia has clearly not forgotten her commitment to reducing the prevalence of smoking. We further encourage the Government to implement a systematic approach – similar to countries like New Zealand, for example – on the taxation of cigarettes.
