Act to care for elderly timely

IT is indeed welcome news that the Government is proposing a new law to ensure that the elderly are taken care of. This is long overdue.

Since the details of the proposed law is still under discussion, I hope the Government will provide assistance to the elderly who are suffering from kidney failure and they have to go for dialysis treatment.

The treatment is very expensive and costs RM180 per treatment and an additional RM60 for an injection. The treatment is three times a week. This will cost the patient RM720 per week or RM2,888 per month.

The elderly pensioners from the civil service get monthly pensions but those from the private sector, like me who is 80 years of age, live on savings.

I do hope the proposed “Aged Healthcare Act” will cover everyone.
