ON June 30, at the World Heritage committee meeting in St Petersburg, the Russian Federation, Malaysia celebrated the inscription of the Archaeological Heritage of the Lenggong Valley in Perak as a Unesco World Heritage Site, Malaysia’s fourth World Heritage Site, “…another dimension of the global recognition of Malaysia as a nation endowed with, and committed to the conservation and protection of its world renowned heritage.”
But even as we celebrate, we are mindful that all around us, we increasingly see signs of the decay and neglect of our heritage towns and villages.
