ACCORDING to the 2010 Population and Housing Census, Malaysia has a population of 28.3 million, an increase of five million over the 2000 figure. We are the 44th most populous country in the world, slightly less than Nepal and a little more than Uzbekistan.
In terms of population density worldwide, Malaysia ranks 115, with a density of 77 persons per sq km – one of the least densely populated among Asian and Asean countries.
